Brevard County E911 Administration Palm Bay PD

CITY OF PALM BAY

The City of Palm Bay operates a primary PSAP with seven (7) answering positions servicing seven (7) incoming 9-1-1 trunks. The staff consists of 30 full and part-time personnel including supervisors.

The staff utilizes Positron "Lifeline" terminal equipment with each position being equipped with 60-button IAP Plus Workstations. A 32-channel digital logging recorder is used to record incoming 9-1-1 calls and in addition each position is also equipped with instant playback recorders.

Spectracomm Netclock equipment is installed to provide for master timing of 911 hardware.

Summary: PSAP personnel work a four-ten shift serving a population of +75,000 in a city that spreads 65 square miles, with approximately 2,885 streets, 81,017 parcels of land, and ten parks completed with more being constructed.

We staff the PSAP with 24 full-time personnel, three part-time 911 call takers and three supervisors to answer E-911 and business telephone calls, dispatches police, fire and rescue responders. They transfer 911 calls for ambulance service. Amateur Radio operations are co-located within the PSAP and support our community during disasters or emergency management operations.

This PSAP processes an average of 208 CFS per day, operates the FCIC teletype and handles other business calls. They function with eight E-911 stations, Eight Business Phone lines, eight CAD stations, five 800 MHZ radio stations and TDD machines. Volunteers operate Amateur and Citizens Band Radios during emergency management operations.

This PSAP handled 27,083 emergency 9-1-1 calls during the last fiscal year and is among the top PSAPs in the county in terms of call volume.
