VOTE TO SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE BREVARD COUNTY PARK THIS EARTH MONTH

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- One of three Brevard County parks has the chance to receive $20,000 through Meet Me At The Park Campaign

Our local parks make Brevard County a better place to live. Parks are essential to our community’s health and wellbeing asthey provide safe places to get active, enjoy nature, preserve the environment and bring people together. That’s why from April 1 to April 30 Brevard County residents will have the opportunity to help one of three park projects receive$20,000 in grant funding to make improvements. The projects are:

  • Multi-Purpose Field at Bernice G. Jackson Park in Sharpes. Located next to an elementary school with a strong after school presence, the addition of a multi-purpose field will encourage kids to play outside, provide access to organized sports activities, and promote healthy living through regular exercise. You can vote for this project starting April 1 by texting Bernice to 35350.*
  • Observation Platforms at Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary in Merritt Island. New pressure treated 4 to 5 foot viewing platforms with signage of local wildlife, distance markers, maps, and park information will provide permanent interior views of the sanctuary that are currently not visible due to natural vegetation. You can vote for this project starting April 1 by texting Ulumay to 35350.*
  • Pedway Enhancements at Wickham Park in Melbourne. The pedway around the park will be enhanced with alcoves for picnic tables and park benches with distance/mileage and nature identification signage. You can vote for this project starting April 1 by texting Wickham to 35350.*

By visiting NRPA.org/BeInspired, park supporters can vote daily for their favorite park project. At the end of April, the park project with the most votes will receive grant funding. New this year, everyone who votes will be entered into a drawing for a tablet outfitted for the outdoors.

“Meet Me at the Park provides County residents and visitors a unique opportunity to support local parks. It takes just a minute of your day to cast your vote. The result will not only improve your neighborhood park but also the quality of life for you and your family.”-Mary Ellen Donner, Director, Brevard County Parks and Recreation

“Supporting local parks is essential to the health and vitality of communities everywhere,” said Lori Robertson, NRPA Director of Conservation. “That’s why we are proud to collaborate with The Walt Disney Company to help fund critical park improvement projects in communities in need. We encourage everyone to join us in giving back to the places thatshape so much of our lives by voting in this year’s Meet Me at the Park campaign.”

Last year, Brevard County voted for Riverwalk –A Family Park to win $20,000. With that funding, the community is now able to enjoy the outdoor Nature Explore Classroom. This year, resident votes will help improve another one of Brevard County’s great parks. Nationally, more than $600,000 has been awarded to help fund local park improvement projects as part of the Meet Me At The Park campaign.
