Solid Waste Management Department Recycling

Welcome to the Recycling Pages! Here we have plenty of resources, media, and information to answer any questions you may have about recycling.

Recyclable Material Collection is provided once a week. Recyclables must be place in the automated recycling collection cart with the YELLOW lid provided by Waste Management, Inc. Please keep lid of recycling container closed at all time. Any rain that gets the paper products wet makes them unrecyclable.

Additional Information

Recyclopedia

Don't know where to take the recyclables that do not belong in your cart? Check out our Recyclopedia for information on other recycling opportunities around Brevard.

Single Stream

Single Stream Recycling is the process in which all recyclable items are mixed together in the recycling truck, rather than separated based on material type. This makes the recycling process move faster as there is less time spent sorting the items at the curb.

Wash, Rinse, Recycle

It is important to the recycling process that you lightly rinse all of your containers out before putting them in the cart.

The local processor requires that the materials are free of food residue and lightly rinsed. Food left in containers and jars contaminate other materials, like cardboard, newspaper and magazines. Cleaner items insure the best value for the recyclables.

Some items may need to be filled with water and set out for a few hours. The water will loosen the food residue. After that, shake and rinse. This also helps keep your recycling cart clean and bug free.

Contamination

Putting incorrect items into your recycling cart can lead to contamination of the entire recycling load. This can end up rendering the entire load unrecyclable as the contamination can spread to the other products. Check out the Dirty Dozen top contaminants video.
