VIERA, FL. – Yesterday, Brevard County Government and community partners, led by the Housing & Human Services Department, launched the “Space for Recovery” Opioid Awareness Campaign during a Fentanyl Awareness Day kickoff event at the Viera Government Complex.
The event featured Melissa Jordan, MS, MPH, Assistant Deputy Secretary for Health with the Florida Department of Health, along with guest speakers, subject matter experts, and the unveiling of new campaign materials designed to raise awareness about the opioid crisis and connect people to help.
The “Space for Recovery” campaign has three clear goals:
This campaign was created for the community — for families who don’t know what to do when a loved one is struggling, for first responders who answer overdose calls every day, for children who have lost a parent, and for the many individuals in Brevard County who are battling addiction and hoping for a brighter future. The initiative underscores that the opioid crisis is a community-wide problem requiring a community-wide response.
As part of the event, Housing and Human Services Director Juanita Jackson announced the opening of a Request for Applications (RFA), inviting local organizations to apply for funding and resources to help address the opioid crisis in Brevard County. More information on the RFA can be found on Brevard County’s VendorLink page.
The campaign builds on a July 22 presentation to the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners by Housing and Human Services and the County’s marketing team. Watch the presentation | View presentation materials
