CDC Tips for staying safe during a holiday weekend

The CDC has issued a video that includes tips for how to be safe at the pool and beach during labor day weekend.

Brevard County

On September 1, Brevard County extended Administrative Order #53 requiring all county employees to wear a face covering while at work consistent with current CDC guidelines.

All PPE Kits Distributed

As of August 27, all Small Business PPE Kits have been distributed. Another offering of PPE kits is in the planning/sourcing stage, with distribution details to be announced when finalized.

Small Business Grant Available

Visit the Brevard CARES website for access to the Small Business and Nonprofit Organizations grant online application .

Small businesses and nonprofit organizations may be eligible for grants of up to $10,000 to offset expenses and lost revenue related to impacts from COVID-19.

Application period remains open.

Mortgage Assistance Program

Applicants for the Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program, Utility and Security Deposit Program, and a Food Stability Program must review and submit all of the required documents and attachments to qualify for assistance as instructed on the Housing and Human Services Coronavirus Assistance Program application form

Farmer's Markets

The UF/Brevard Extension Service is hosting two farmer’s market locations where eligible residents can obtain CARES Act dollars for vendor purchases.

Thursdays at Wickham Park, 2500 Parkway Drive Melbourne, 3-6 PM

Fridays at the Welcome Center, 419 South Hopkins Avenue, Titusville, 3-6 PM

Community Feeding Operations

  • For information on food pantry locations and how to access help, utilize the United Way of Brevard’s COVID-19 Community Resource guide. It is recommended that you call ahead to verify availability.
  • To date, Brevard County’s “Pop up Pantry” feeding operation has distributed 1.64 million meals.

EFSC Palm Bay Campus

  • Free drive-through, no appointment required, testing at the Eastern Florida State College, Palm Bay Campus located at 250 Community College Parkway. (Use the entrance from San Filippo Dr. SE & Jupiter Blvd.).
  • Testing will be available seven days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM.
  • Adults 18 and over with Photo ID required, children 5 and over with parental consent required.
  • Self-swab, symptomatic lane has been added.
  • Antibody testing is now available for individuals 18 and older.

Health First

  • Pro-Health & Fitness, 255 Borman Drive, Merritt Island. Monday – Saturday, 9 AM to Noon.

West Melbourne

All businesses in West Melbourne must post their face mask policy.

Employers of ten specified “essential businesses” must require their employees, except for specified exemptions, to wear masks while inside public areas of their business.

Customers of the specified “essential businesses”, except for specified exemptions, must wear a mask while inside the “essential businesses”.

Additional West Melbourne businesses, at their discretion, may opt into the emergency ordinance such that the Police Department is able to enforce the ordinance within their particular business.

Municipal buildings are closed to the public except for the purpose of City Council and City board meetings, and for voting on election days.

State / National Highlights

Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-211 Limited Extension of Mortgage Foreclosure and Eviction Relief. The order provides a limited, one-month extension to mortgage foreclosure and eviction relief as stated on Executive Order 20-180, to include:

  • A property owner may initiate a mortgage foreclosure or eviction process in any situation allowed under existing Florida statutes. The Executive Order only halts the final action of certain foreclosures and evictions
  • The protections of halting final action for certain foreclosures and evictions are only for persons affected by the COVID-19 emergency. The Executive Order does not cover tenants whose lease expires or when non-payment occurs due to reasons other than the COVID-19 emergency
  • The Executive Order applies only to residential tenants, not to commercial evictions

The Florida Division of Emergency Management Issued an Emergency Order 20-009 to lift visitation restrictions on long term care facilities

Per the Emergency Order, to accept general visitors, the facility must meet the following:

  • No new facility-onset of resident COVID-19 cases within 14 days; other than in a dedicated COVID-19 unit or wind
  • If a staff member tests positive for COVID-19, the facility must immediately cease all indoor/outdoor visitation in the event that staff person was in the facility in the 10 days prior to the positive test
  • Sufficient staff to support management of visitors
  • Adequate PPE for facility staff and adequate cleaning/disinfecting supplies
  • Adequate capacity at referral hospitals for the facility

Every facility must continue to prohibit the entry of any individual to the facility except in the following circumstances:

  • Family members, friends and individuals visiting residents in end-of-life situations
  • Hospice or palliative care workers caring for residents in end-of-life situations
  • Any individual or providers giving necessary health care to a resident, provided that such individuals or providers comply with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for PPE, are screened for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 prior to entry and comply with all infection control requirements of the CDC and the facility
  • Facility staff and residents
  • Attorneys of Record for a resident in an Adult Mental Health and Treatment Facility or forensic facility for court related matters if virtual or telephonic means are unavailable
  • Public Guardians, Professional Guardians and their professional staff as defined in Florida Statue 744
  • Representatives of the federal or state government seeking entry as part of their official duties
  • Essential caregivers and compassionate care visitors
  • General visitors under specific criteria set forth under the Emergency Order
