Have a Safe Holiday Gathering
Traditional Holiday gatherings with family and friends are fun but can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19. Follow these CDC recommendations to make your Winter holiday safer:
- Celebrate virtually or only with members of your own household
- Attendees follow safety measures such as mask coverings, social distancing, and hand washing
- Host outdoor rather than indoor gatherings as much as possible
- Even outdoors, require guests to wear masks when not eating or drinking
- Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, and utensils
- Limit contact with commonly touched surfaces or shared items such as serving utensils
- Limit the number of people in food preparation areas
- Keep 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from others is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick

It is recommended that you call ahead to verify availability
Brevard County Public Schools continue to offer meals for all children up to 18 years old at various food distribution sites through June 30, 2021.
Food distribution sites are open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Via the Food Stability Program, Brevard County and its partners including, the Children’s Hunger project Food banks, and VOAD distributed 5,000 Turkeys to Brevard Residents.

Vaccine Key Points
- Moderna‘s COVID-19 vaccine received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA, national distribution is underway
- Both the Pfizer and Modernarequire 2 doses, 21 days and 28 days apart, respectively
- All hospital systems in Brevard have received the vaccine and have begun vaccinating their high-risk healthcare staff
- Long-Term Care Facilities in Brevard began to receive vaccinations as part of the CVS/Walgreens federal partnership, with an expectation of the end of January for completion
- The availability/quantity of doses will be what determines who is able to get the vaccine and when
- It will take some time before the COVID-19 Vaccine is widely available for mass dispensing, please be patient

State and National Updates
Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-315 updating Florida’s Phase 1 priority groups for COVID-19 vaccine distribution:
- Long Term Care facility residents and staff
- Persons 65 years of age and older
- Health care personnel with direct patient contact
The CDC updated its vaccine recommendations COVID-19 vaccines and severe allergic reactions, per the guidelines:
- If you have had a severe allergic reaction to other vaccines or injectable therapies, you should ask your doctor if you should get a COVID-19 vaccine. Your doctor will help you decide if it is safe for you to get vaccinated.
- If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any ingredient in a COVID-19 vaccine, CDC recommends that you should not get that specific vaccine
The CDC has updated information for Travel guidelines and provides the following recommendations:
- Get tested 1-3 days before your flight
- Get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home for 7 days after travel
- Even if you test negative, stay home for the full 7 days.
- If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home for 10 days after travel
- Always follow state and local recommendations or requirements
