Safer Travel Tips for Families with Unvaccinated Children

If you are traveling with children who cannot get vaccinated at this time, follow recommendations for unvaccinated people and choose the safer travel options described below:

CDC recommends delaying travel until you are able to get fully vaccinated

Check CDC’s Domestic Travel or International Travel pages for the latest recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers

After travel, self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms

Florida COVID -19 Vaccine Priorities

Persons over 18 years of age

* All vaccines are approved for this age group

Persons 16 –17 years of age

* Requires parental or legal guardian consent

* Pfizer is the only FDA vaccine approved for this age group

Vaccine Operation Highlights

Florida Department of Health -Brevard, and the partners they support, have provided 112,859 vaccines since January 4, 2021

Per the Florida Department of Health, the total number of residents vaccinated in Brevard County is 271,957

  • 46,307 have received at least one dose
    • 50% of those 12plus
    • 67% of those 50 plus
    • 77% of those 65 plus
  • 225,650 have completed the full series

BCFR’s vaccine outreach program Operation Homebound continues to operate with 2 dedicated crews to the mission

Total vaccinated (as of 5/25): 1,044

  • 1st dose: 640
  • 2nd dose: 404

The wait list has been cleared

Emergency Management, in collaboration with Parks and Recreation, Florida Division of Emergency Management and community partners are bringing the Mobile Vaccine Van to Brevard County

    • Port St. John: 15
    • Tony Rosa Community Center: 12
  • Total shots for entire May outreach operation: 135

DOH has partnered with Library Services, Emergency Management and Health Heroes to conduct a Pfizer vaccine operation with an emphasis on increasing vaccine availability for children 12-17 but is open to anyone 12 plus

Brevard County Public Schools continue to offer meals for all children up to 18 years old at various food distribution sites.

The Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department will participate in the Summer Break Spot Program beginning Monday, June 7, and running through Friday, August 6, 2021. Any child age 18 or younger can receive a meal.

  • Meals will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis; child must be present to receive food. Children may consume the meal at the site or take it with them. At lunchtime, on Fridays, children can receive a shelf stable weekend meal to take home, along with their lunch meal.
  • 12 Brevard Community Centers will be participating

Brevard County Updates

Brevard County Government has a limited amount of funds to assist families who have lost a loved one due to Coronavirus.

The application for the program is available at the Community Action Agency (Dr. Joe Lee Smith Community Center, 415 Stone Street, Cocoa, FL 32922), or via Brevard County’s Housing and Human Services website

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Cause of death on the death certificate must be directly or indirectly related to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
  • Example of indirect –heart attack (main) exacerbated by coronavirus
  • Brevard resident
  • Household income must be below 150% of poverty ($39,300 for a family of 4)

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program provides financial assistance and housing stability services for those impacted by COVID-19

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Applicant is a resident of Brevard County.
  • Applicant is at or below 80% of Area Median Income.
  • The applicant must sign all required documents or their application will be rejected/denied.
  • Documentation of all income from the entire Household as reported on the Household Income Section of the application (include 2 months of bank statements, pay stubs, etc., or a 2020 tax return (IRS Form 1040)).
  • All members of a household must be accounted for in the application.
  • For applications filled out by hand, please make sure that the writing is clear and legible.

  • 601 (71%) from municipalities
  • 245 (29%) from County (unincorporated)

State and National Updates

No later than Friday, May 28, all state COVID-19 testing sites will transition to local providers, such as primary care offices,retail, and pharmacies

Florida Division of Emergency Management can provide a full list of COVID-19 testing sites near your location

The State is hosting several mobile, one-day vaccination clinics in partnership with local community organizations to increase vaccine access to all Floridians

The CDC issued guidance for fully vaccinated individuals within the United States. Per the guidance, they can now can resume activities that were done prior to the pandemic without wearing a mask or social distancing

Exception include:

  • Where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws
  • Rules, and regulations, including local business
  • Workplace guidance

The CDC states COVID-19 cases have declined to their lowest levels in nearly a year and are continuing to decrease in most of the country. The 7-day average of daily new cases is 22,139, a 23% decrease from the previous 7-day average of 28,751

Per the CDC, as of May 26, more than 289 million doses of vaccine shave been administered in the United States and 49.7 % of the entire United States population over the age of 12 has had at least one dose of a COVID vaccine
