Community CIVIC Training Workshop Now Available

BREVARD COUNTY, FL -- Our communities feel more polarized than ever, but many issues we face are complex and cannot easily be solved without community involvement. Bringing the community together to talk about an issue is one way to engage the members, but these conversations can easily devolve into unproductive complaint sessions without effective facilitation.

UF/IFAS Extension is offering a workshop for anyone who wants to learn how to bring people together to discuss solutions for change. In this workshop, you will learn how to make sure everyone in the conversation has a chance to share. You will also learn how to frame an issue so that everyone understands the problem clearly. Conversations require people, so we will share strategies for recruiting diverse groups of community members. You will also have an opportunity to practice using a variety of facilitation tools to ensure successful conversation management. This event is designed to benefit community leaders, non-profit organization representatives, and those seeking to elicit productive and impactful community dialogue that leads to community action.

The workshop is free and will take place at the Havert L. Fenn Center in Fort Pierce. This is a 2-day workshop that starts on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. and concludes on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Travel expenses may be covered for those traveling a distance to attend.
