Brevard County

Small Business Grant Available

Visit the Brevard CARES website for access to the Small Business and Nonprofit Organizations grant online application .

Small businesses and nonprofit organizations may be eligible for grants of up to $10,000 to offset expenses and lost revenue related to impacts from COVID-19.

Application period remains open.

Mortgage Assistance Program

Applicants for the Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program, Utility and Security Deposit Program, and a Food Stability Program must review and submit all of the required documents and attachments to qualify for assistance as instructed on the Housing and Human Services Coronavirus Assistance Program application form

Farmer's Markets

The UF/Brevard Extension Service is hosting two farmer’s market locations where eligible residents can obtain CARES Act dollars for vendor purchases.

Thursdays at Wickham Park, 2500 Parkway Drive Melbourne, 3-6 PM

Fridays at the Welcome Center, 419 South Hopkins Avenue, Titusville, 3-6 PM

1st / 3rd Saturdays at Riverview Park in Melbourne from 10am - 3pm

2nd / 4th Saturday at 4220 Dixie Highway NE in Palm Bay from 10am - 2pm

Community Feeding Operations

For information on food pantry locations and how to access help, utilize the United Way of Brevard’s COVID-19 Community Resource guide. It is recommended that you call ahead to verify availability.

Effective today, Brevard County Public Schools continue to offer meals for all children up to 18 years old at various food distribution sites through December 31.

Food distribution locations are open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The county has partnered with the Children’s Hunger Project to distribute 37,593 weekend meals to date

To date, Brevard County’s “Pop up Pantry” feeding operation has distributed 1.9 million meals. From 9/23 –9/29, served approximately 3,030 cars and 47 walk-ups for a total 3,636 families

Space Coast Area Transit

Space Coast Area Transit will begin collecting fares again on October 1, 2020

Fixed routes remain on regular service except an end to routes 4 and 9 as of 9 PM with front and rear boarding

Riders are requested to continue to wear masks, use hand sanitizer, and keep 6 feet from other riders when possible

Face coverings are required in places open to the public

City of Cocoa Offering Coronavirus Water Utilities and Rental & Mortgage Assistance for citizens living within the city limits of Cocoa through City of Cocoa Coronavirus Relief Fund

  • Electronic applications are available online and can be submitted via email at: crf@cocoafl.org
  • Hard copy applications are available at 65 Stone Street, Cocoa, FL 32922 in the lobby. Applications will be picked up Monday-Friday at 4PM with stamped date.
  • Only complete applications with COVID-19 hardship from March 1, 2020 -December 20, 2020 will be accepted.

West Melbourne

The masking requirement in essential businesses has been extended to September 28

All businesses in West Melbourne must post their face mask policy

Customers of specific essential businesses must wear a mask while inside the essential businesses, with certain exemptions

Additional West Melbourne businesses, at their discretion, may opt-into the emergency ordinance such that the Police Department is able to enforce the ordinance within their particular business

Municipal buildings are closed to the public except for the purpose of City Council and City board meetings, and for voting on election days

State / National Highlights

Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-44, declaring counties may enter Phase 3, effective immediately. EO 20-44 supersedes and eliminates any previous restrictions issued. Per the order:

  • No COVID-19 emergency ordinance may prevent an individual from working or from operating a business
  • Restaurants, including any establishment with a food service license, may not be limited by a COVID-19 emergency order by any local government to less than 50% of their indoor capacity. If a restaurant in limited to less than 100% of its indoor capacity, such limitation must quantify the economic impact of each limitation/requirement on that restaurant and explain why each is necessary for public health
  • Suspension of individual fines and penalties associated with COVID-19 enforcement

Phase III: Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step. Plan for Florida's Recovery includes:

  • Vulnerable populations should inform their employer that they are a member of the vulnerable population so that their employers can plan accordingly
  • Employers may considered teleworking for vulnerable populations
  • Employers should take prudent and practical measures to ensure employees do not enter the premises, if they believe they are infected with COVID-19 or show symptoms of influenza like illness
  • Local Government meetings should return to in-person quorum and public participation for local government bodies
  • Bars, pubs, and nightclubs that derive more than 50% of their sales from alcohol, may operate at full capacity with limited social distancing protocols
  • Restaurants and food service establishments may operate at full capacity with limited social distancing protocols
  • Gyms and fitness centers should open to full capacity but should maintain adequate sanitation practices among employees and patrons during all hours of operation
  • Theme parks may return to normal operations with limited social distancing protocols
  • Retail businesses may operate at full capacity, and should continue to maintain adequate sanitation practices for employees and patrons
