Emergency Event: COVID-19

Partnering with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Brevard County is monitoring the rapidly evolving situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19).

For questions related to COVID-19 in Brevard County, dial 2-1-1 for up-to-date information 8 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday.  The Florida Department of Health's dedicated COVID-19 Call Center can be reached by calling 866-779-6121 or emailing COVID-19@flhealth.gov. The Call Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Informational Resources

Florida Department of Health is coordinating with local partners to investigate, confirm, contain and report suspected cases.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website has reliable and up-to-date information on how COVID-19 is spread, symptoms, prevention and treatment, testing, and frequently asked questions. Additional sections include information for communities, schools, and businesses, healthcare professionals, health departments, travel, and laboratories.

Brevard Public Schools is coordinating with the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County to monitor the spread of the disease. Their website links to CDC-authored resources for more information about coronavirus.

What Brevard County is Doing

  • Participating in weekly conference calls with regional, state, and federal health officials
  • Reviewing and updating pandemic preparedness and response plans
  • Coordinating with FDOH Brevard, local, county, state, federal, and non-profit partners regarding preparedness actions
  • Monitoring CDC and FDOH websites and social media outlets for updated guidance
  • Sharing information via all available communication channels including social media, our website and print and broadcast media, to keep the community apprised of personal preparedness information and current steps the county is taking to prepare

What You Can Do

Preparedness & Prevention

  • Ensure the readiness of your disaster supply kit.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Practice touching your face less to reduce the spread of germs.
  • Replace handshakes with elbow-bumps or hand waves. 
  • Practice social distancing and avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Home Care

Discuss how your family may take care of sick family members while trying not to get infected. Discuss plans for childcare if caretakers are sick, or if your child becomes sick. Review the guidance from the CDC on home care.

Schools

Private and public childcare programs and K-12 schools are encouraged to review information on how to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Review the guidance from the CDC for schools.

Businesses and employers should continue to actively encourage sick employees to stay home, consider telecommuting options, perform routine environmental cleaning and consider cross-training key staff to mitigate potential absenteeism as offices and businesses begin to reopen.
